I assume you mean when the twister at the end is totally unscrewed & the dot at its biggest & move it near & far until i get the optimum smoke out, leaving the twister at the end, fully open? This is about 5" with me, fully open!

If the laser is a bit cold, its dimmer & the dot stutters between dim & brighter & the centre concentrated dot kinda like splits into 3. I'm wondering if it needs a charge! Or maybe is a sign it needs a charge!

I guess i'm right in thinking that the laser burns the same if focus is all the way out, as opposed to all the way in, just that when all the way in, it will burn at greater distance?

I'm still totally unsure about this laser!

Are they supposed to be inconsistent in how they work!! Sometimes i can't see the beam very well even in darkness, other times i can! Is it a heat thing, like i have to warm it up!
I've tried using black marker pen on a balloon & it just burns the marker pen off!!
The dot is to the far right of the waste it produces & there are little circles within the dot!
The button is wobbly, lots of free play, i got no instructions for proper care & use, just a piece of scrap paper saying what is common sense!

The after sales is shocking! I hear nothing from Susie in email or IM on msn!

Other days i'm impressed by the beam, things it burns etc, but it doesn't go through anything!! Maybe i'm not focusing properly, thats why i should've got an instruction sheet!
Sometimes the light is dim & then gets brighter & vica versa! & when the end is twisted counter clockwise, the dot is massive after about 10". Its only very small over distance when fully twisted clockwise!!
Is this right!!???

Thanks

Also, tonight, the beam is hardly visible inside in the dark & in hardly any light!
I can just see the dot! Its just different to last night!

It won't burn dark matches either, they just smolder & spit occasionally, but don't catch!
I'm seriously wondering if it is 180mW+ like susie (who now ignores as she has my money) says!!!
I've seen vids on youtube of lasers half the power of mine looking better & banging balloons instantly & a wicked laser at 130mW by styropyro burning a match up close when the laser looks fully clockwise turned by the way the beam looks, when i thought they only burned up close when counter clockwise turned!!

If you say it's seems the beam split into 3 dots. That means it's mod hopping. How often does it do this? Does it do it only when the laser is cold, within the first few seconds or after it has been running for more then a minuet? If it mod hopes often under normal operating temps, you might want to send it back

Also you should have no problems popping sharpied balloons or lighting matches if it is focused right

The little circles aren't bright!, they are just in the beam waste, like little grey circles! i don't know what the heck they are!

The other night it seemed to burn ok, tonight not & the beam is visibly less clear & minutely thin!
The matches are old ones , so i'll get some more tomorrow! & as i say, it seems to burn away the black ink in on the balloon that i painted on there & not through anything!
I saw the vid on youtube as i say & he just put the match anywhere in the beam & it instantly burned! whereas i thought it had to be a certain point!, also the beam was tight/screwed clockwise, i'm not sure of the word for it as 'focused' isn't the word as it can be focused when counter clockwise at the right point!

I can't get to ask susie!, no reply!

Try and open the beam all the way up, counter clock wise.
then find the most narrow part of the beam, this would be where the beam diverges. This should give you the most power for burning.

You should be able to turn the head so that it provides a very narrow spot some distance (say 10 cm) from the aperture. If you are not, there is some misalignment in the optics causing the options to be limited to divergent and even more divergent, with no convergent end.

If the optics are working properly, you should be able to produce a dot 1 cm in diameter about 10 meters away. At greater distances it becomes more problematic - do not expect to produce 1 inch spots at mile distance or anything like that... its not doable without beam expanders and such!

Sounds GREAT WF!!! Sounds like your really loving your Laser!

I LOVE MY RAYFOSS 200mW!!! I just went up in the city of Chicago the other day and was hitting the 110th floor of the Sears Tower with NO PROBLEM with my Laser!!!

I'm not kidding man, the Laser was reflecting off the top windows of the building, and I was shooting the Laser from about a mile away straight up to 1,500 feet up in the SKY hitting the top of the tower!!!

I will bring my camera next time and record it! I was hitting 90 story windows easily on the John-Hancock building from 3 miles away!!!

I LOVE MY Laser, I never realized how awesome this was until I went to the city!!!! :D

PS: I forgot to mention that you can actually see the beam going straight up to the 110th floor of the building hitting it!!! It looked like some Star Trek SH*T!!!! SOOOOO COOOL!!!! I'll get some Pics up by next week when I go to City agian! :D

Shit dude...
My condo is RIGHT next to the John Hancock (on 111 East Chestnut Street on the 53rd floor)...
I swear I saw a green laser a few times... Rofl. Better be careful with that.

Just got this laser yesterday and it burns and lights matches but I find the focus to be alright. I set it on wide beam and put it through a 15x magnification lens. The result was quite incredible. It lit a match instantly! It also lit the match stick first!! ...
I am not sure about the power however. I also tried blocking the IR with a filter. It still burns well. maybe 100mW?
Anyone tell me about their o-like 200mW adjustable?
