This "little lens" is the expander, usually a double-concave unit, for expand the beam coming from the crystal, enough to be re-focused using a standard positive lens (the one at the output) and a human-size short holder (without this expander, the only way to re-focus the beam can be obtain a custom 0,1 / 0,05 dioptry, and use a much more long holder)

If you take it away, the module not more focus with the given lens (but if you have a mangled module, you can try to substitute the expander from the mangled module in place to this one, re-align it and refocus the final lens)

And yes, lots of the actual modules uses araldite or 5-min-epoxy for glue the expander in place, including the high power modules from o-like and other distributors ..... much more cheap than build a holder or machine the side in the crystal holder (also cause, actually, all uses those pre-glued crystals sets in brass disks, and align and glue in place the crystal, first, so it can also be unaligned with the rest of the module holder, and cause the expander need to be aligned with the beam, and not with the holder, the working process now is this one ..... glue, glue, and glue again :p :D)

I have purchased the Ledshoppe green laser, it is my first green so can not compare to others but I am very impressed with the quality of the housing, it has a nice weight/feel to it. Also the brightness and distance that the beam travels is better than I was expecting for $25, whilst also remaining very tight with a small spot created even at long distance.

Re: Focal Price - 50mW Green Laser Pointer - LP115B - $14.76

Focal Price - 50mW Green Laser Pointer - LP115B - $14.76 USD Delivered

50mW 532nm Green Laser Pointer (Black) $14.76 - Free Shipping

Comes in a plain white box that was crumpled.
On off switch is on the side, works but doesn't feel very nice to use. The switch transfers pressure onto a tiny little switch located on the laser module PCB.
Uses 2x AA batteries, not included
Non focussable laser, with no IR filter
The strength was very weak and dissapointing when compared to my LEDShoppe laser (approximately 1/4 the brightness)

Is the LEDShoppe 50mW Green Laser the best of all the 5omW or are there anymore better?

Uhm, having no machines, i was wondering about get 3 of them, the LP114B type, dismantle them (cause the modules looks a bit weak), and made a matched set for my 150mW focusable green, 6X BR and LCC red ..... too bad that they don't made them in anodized red, green and blue colors, this way it was just perfect :D

Just wondering if i can turn all the units for keep the focusing features .....

kiwijunglist, if this don't cause you problems, can you please say me something about the dimensions of the head part ?

I mean, what's the total lenght of the brass part of the original module, the diameter of the bigger part (i suppose this is standard 12mm) and the space inside the "heatsink" (that part of aluminium made with 2 pieces screwed together, if you can measure the space inside when the 2 parts are together) ? ..... from the pic, i don't see it well, but the impression is that it's a bit more small than the brass part of the module .....

And, last, is the print "green laser" on the side engraved, or just painted ? (if is just painted, is better :p)

john_lawson.....did you use 2 x 1.5 volt alkaline battery to test 70mw (true 50 green) ...? or you used 2x nimh rechargeable battery at about 1.25 volt? i would buy this laser.. is it good ?kiwijunglist received a bad one... i think max 20mw or less. but hey.. you received a really good one! if you put a filther IR... you can have true 50mw .. wow.(70-ir 23=47 true).

if everyone could receive a unite like your... for only 14$....and is VERY VERY GOOD. how long can work your laser?i think that 50mw with 18650 lion battery... should stand for a long time!!! 3 hour or 5 ...

So, which of the three is the best? Preferrably answered in terms of beam brightness and divergence. Sorry, but it seems that that detail was left out.

Hmm, I keep hearing and seeing good reviews about the Led Shoppe 50mW so what I'm gonna do instead of rushing to get an o-like 150mW is keep the LS 50mW that's coming and then relax, take a breath and see if I really need to spend $80 more bucks for more beam. I know, I know, I'm just delaying the inevitable but if I don't give myself a break from this, my head is gonna esplode

Really? I thought you'd say the FP 50mW that goes on the AAs. Many are saying that the beam doesn't expand no matter how far they test it. I'll trust you, though.

i found the other beams looked fairly weak, i didn't get very technical at checking divergence. I just felt that the ledshoppe beam was a lot brighter. you can get about 5-10% off coupon code if you google/search the forum. I thought the ledshoppe had best build quality too.
