im planning on building this and I have all the parts except for the rkcstr test load
is there any way I could build my own and if so what parts do i need and how do I put them together?
also I figure googles would be a good idea. Anybody know where I can get some good enough to keep my eyes safe but cheap enough for a student to afford?

And yes you can make your own test load. I believe it is just 6 1N2001 (not sure on the #'s there, but its something like that) silicon diodes in series which is in series with a 1 ohm resistor. the resistor end goes to + on the driver and silicon diode end goes to -. then measure mV over the 1 ohm resistor and 1mV will = 1mA so you can see the current.
And this is a great source for 405nm goggles.

dont understand i did every thing right got a flex drive 16x diode good soder conections driver set to 210 ma every thing worken fine used it for a bout 40 seconds then turend it off and tried to turn it back on and ended up with a red led light. :'(

Looks like one of the best tutorials on ths site simple not hard to understand and I think I might just do it I always liked the look of dorcy jr lasers but there always like alot of money making would = cheaper.

No. We routinely run these at 300mA.

He was talking about a red 16x dvd burner laser diode (650nm). not a blu ray one.
but for a 6x laser diode you could do 200mA and get around 190-210mW output.

Yeah, you could desolder it off. I've noticed they use some weird solder on the LED, you have to get your iron really really hot just to melt it... but yeah you can get it off.XaseR said:

you never know these things... would rather keep it in tact. But from your reply, i gather its not possible.
Edit: Cheers sk8er. I actually meant the glass cover at the tip of the torch. I will be saving the LED. I have noticed that it is not as bright as the cree c3, even though there both 1watt (i think).
