Dichroic mirror, you mean, and yeah you can combine as many beams as you want with those.

But they all have to be different wavelengths - and the separation between wavelengths has to be reasonable. You probably aren't going to be very successful using a dichro to combine a 635 and 680 for example.

Yea I got that krowbar. :) So it is possible, by combining two (three for cheapness of quality ) cheap 200 mW green pointers from Dealextreme along with all five free dvd drive diodes (each about 250 mW?) I have, I could make an awesome super cheap burning powerful yellow laser?!! If so, then :D!

No you cannot do that with that many but your question for the day will be telling us why.

HINT: Read ARG's link or do... Research

:(:(:scowl: Ouch, didn't catch the "once he said. Bummer.
Blue and yellow make white? Then is it possible to construct a white laser from a 150 mW green and a 200 mW red and a 800mW blue? Doing research:na::) seems brings up the ratio of 4:2:1 for red, blue, green for the best looking white. So if I combine the above, what will it look like? A light blue?

A little more research is required.

Ratios depend largely on wavelength, not broad categories of colors. 470 blue and 660 red will need to be mixed in dramatically different ratios than 440 blue and 640 red.

Use a tool called chroma to figure it out. It has been discussed a lot elsewhere on the forum, but here's a link to one of the posts about it:

Yeah, rhd, great way to put it nicely:).
Ouch, my computer says that Chroma is unavailable.
Since I don't have that nifty tool, can you tell me what red and green I have to blend if I have a 800mW 445 nm and a 650 nm dvd burner diode (s!) and any power 532 green?

It's not available on your computer. It's a program that you download.....install..... etc

I know. My webpage just said "This webpage is not available".
And can you answer my question?:thanks:

I'm done with you... man... do some of your own reading.

The fact that you'd come back with that comment re: the webpage being unavailable is just more evidence of the fact that you're not even bothering to TRY and do your own research before asking others to feed you answer. And heck, I pretty much did feed you that answer. All you needed to do was read the thread.

Had you actually read the post and thread on PL that I linked you directly to you'd have seen that yes, the initial download links in that thread are dead, but there are many other download links in that thread that work.

EDIT: argh....

There's the post with the working download mirrors.

Ok rhd. I'll be hauling in the information ladle over ladle.;)
You can exit the thread now. Or will you be monitoring me?
Great info everyone! Anything else? This thread will be open for information till the winter, so there won't be anymore necromancers till the next year :san:
So bottom-line is that you can't combine more than two beams of the same wavelength.....(?)

You can but it's all quite tricky.

In short - if you're not JUST about to do it, leave it be for now - focus on single diode laser builds, multi-diode builds are quite rare and expensive to pull off anyway. I've never built one.

Not to be rude but you have only built 1 laser and did not even know how to remove the lense, so before doing multi diode builds which are extremely complicated just stick to doing the single diode ones. The process of doing a multi diode build requires you to align and rotate polarizations which should not be done until you understand the basics of building a laser.

Often, you can find PBS in combo DVD/CD drives. Although sometimes these are replaced with dicro

+5 true dat...

but we are talking about a cube way too small for some builders to work with-- just sayin' they are tiny...

One WAS used in some h.helds and ONE even inside a Zippo lighter(IIRC)

IIRC there is a huge dichro pass red reflect green or the reverse-
ez to build a 'yellow' laser and there are many threads here on those projects..

anyway there are in every Kasio and also BenQ PJs
ONE could be cut into 4 by a SKILLFUL glass man-
Daguin cut some of his--

you can get an almost 'good' yellow by knife edging the cheapest yellow you will find--

DTR sells any Kasio/BQ part you may want and will always give you a super deal.

Get more than one item from Jordan- save on shipping overall.
DO NOT buy from ANY forum member AixiZ at Scamazon OR Greedbay- buy only from their stores- saves them some$ -and we get VIP treatment--

even better offer to snailmail a MO- super safe IMHO-

I find extra goodies when paying that way..

and it builds good will-----priceless!!!!!i

LOOKING fwd to seeing the pics of this project
NEXT make a awesome color==MAGENTA--
R + B (OR a diff shade use 405)

will +5 you when we see the results--
GOOD LUCK

Glad to see that you're in this too, haksaw1;)
Computer case to mount this laser in: Free
CPU fan to cool the parts: Free
USB fan to cool additional parts: Free
Power Supply, heatsink, and abundant metal parts: Free :wtf:
I'm serious. Practically 50% of all my parts are being taken from a computer.
Now that's innovation
Any ideas on this cyber-laser?
