Before I had a job, I've always purchased cheap Chinese lasers...
dealextreme, Kaidomain...and..yep.. many purchases from those two companies.

Well now that I have a job my price range is around $300.

The specs I'm after are:
ATLEAST 200mW
focusable and/or waterproof
not a pen style host.
cr123a or 18650 batteries.
clicky switch.

I found that EliteLasers has this really nice 200mW waterproof laser:
EliteLasers | Green Laser Pointers

It looks amazing, it can be submerged underwater up to 90 feet, and look at this picture!

But I'd also like to know what else is currently out there? I've seen this 350mW Rayfoss that's really tempting me...
www.rayfoss.com

but I'm trying to steer away from chinese companies..

any input would be great!

Pretty much all of these lasers are made in china, so don't worry too much about that :D

In fact, most of the lasers on that elitelasers site look like they came off of o-like or rayfoss

Your price range is an inbetween. You can't get into the CNI or Viasho stuff, and you have more than you need to buy into a Rayfoss or similar. You might want to consider a $150 200mW from Rayfoss, then invest the other $150 in a really nice set of safety glasses (if you don't already have a set). If you already have some, then maybe just save the extra $ in a LaserMoney jar. Add a buck or two anytime you have a little extra and after a while you can sell the Rayfoss and move up if you're still interested in going bigger.

Have you owned a projector before? I would choose a 150mW scanner over a 300mW pointer anyday

Nope I have not owned a projector yet, although it might be something to think about in the future, right now I'm after. A high powered portible laser.

If it was the other way around you should obviously buy from rayfoss. If rayfoss was selling the same lasers as elitelasers for less money and rayfoss bought the lasers from elitelasers why would you buy from elitelasers?

I don't think its the other way around, how could a company let something like that happen. I don't think they would willingly let another company undersell them when they are trying to sell the same thing. That's just common sense.

It's CHINA just like how CNI will sell directly to an end user if you ask them. They don't care.
