Are laser mice really... lasers?

Hmm.. I just checked my Saitek Cyborg RAT 6 or whatever it's called, and it doesn't output a LED, it's a normal red laser which is comparable to my 2.5mW handheld red laser..

Question was if LASER mouses are laser. And imho if they are marketed as laser, they are laser. At least major brands. Sure is plenty LED mouses.

My mouse has got a laser warning sticker on it.
"class 1m laser product"
looked at it with a camera and can see a faint IR glow to it.

There are no laser warnings on the mouse. The power is below Class I. I think it is pretty harmless.

I just shine my red laser on the Logitech MX Revolution mouse and the cursor did move a little. Looks like the sensor is picking up 660nm red.

I have been wondering about laser mice for a while. My mouse uses an LED not a laser so no pot modding... :scowl:
