another that sometimes offer such is Dr Sam (Sam'sFAQ Laser)stuff that is given away goes to better use in some cases and for sure no one will say that you over charged them-- btw Sam-- would be a source of help with this tube and maybe give you a quote to work on it- he & his partner down in Fl. do great work-

By all means, if you can use it you should try to. I'm not in a hurry for anything right now since I'm about to temporarily relocate for work.

This would be awesome to hang up above your desk like a fluorescent lamp.

If you still can't put it to use or find a home for it once my financial situation improves a bit I will take it off your hands. I'd love to power this up with my big 2kW SSTC!

I can't even say that last sentence out loud without cracking up, hehe, which means it is surely a good time to be had, haha.

Lol, actually a measly little HeNe tube can survive 2kW output from a SSTC as long as the run time is short enough that death by heat is not an issue. I've done it many times.

Output @ 2kW is somewhere around 250kV @ 13mA (power factor is ~0.6 so there is quite a lot more reactive power than actual power, as the current and voltage are not in phase with each other. 250kV is the calculated maximum based on dielectric breakdown for observed CW spark length. 3.33kVA is the calculated reactive power based on observed actual power and power factor.). 13mA should be enough to light up the tube without powering it fully (though the higher voltage will ensure complete gasseous ionization throughout the tube), and is certainly not enough to make it go poof =).

Except it needs 500W of power ($45 per month in electric cost), water cooling, and outputs much less light than a HeNe. :undecided:
