With my recent (re)discovery of lasers and even more recent buying binge - I am constantly thinking of fun things to do with lasers and I think I found one. Building a water proof laser...

Has anyone done this? What kind of sealants/glue/outer casing w/orings/etc were used?

I just purchased something called a Focusable 200mW 405nm Burns Match + Money Detector Blue-Violet/Royal Purple Laser Pen(2*CR2) from Price angels and looking at it's sleek design I was imagining playing with it in the ocean at night when I go on vacation. Actually I'm looking to take some pictures of glowing foamy blue waves.

I'll wear my safety glasses and it'll be at about 1am so no one should be around when I venture into the surf (I mean when I wade in to my knees).

you basically need some PVC tube (slightly bigger diameter than your laser) with some acrylic window on one end and some threaded endcap on the other end...

This may not accord with the DIY spirit in your original thread, but both Rayfoss and OdicForce sell waterproof empty hosts that fit Aixiz modules. They're actually pretty sexy (especially in chrome) and cheap ($15).

I always appreciate a good suggestion, and I might just get one (or more) of those hosts for a future project, but I will still be collecting parts for a nice frankenstein model. :)

I wish I still worked with high purity SS Piping or I'd probably be making hosts for sale! (I used to orbitally weld 316L uhp tubing) Still I might be able to find some leftover stuff down in the fab shop...
