Ok, here's an amusing ultra-noob question for you guys.
How do I collimate an open can w/ long die - do I just cram it into a axiz module, or does it require something else?

Yes

Peace,
dave

Thanks daguin! For some reason, I thought open and closed cans had huge differences including size. But if they can both fit into an axiz module, apparently not.
Thanks again,
Matt.

Nah. They're both 5.6mm. The only real difference is that you must be a little more careful handling them because the little wires are exposed. However, once it's in the module head and protected by the lens, it's all the same.

Received mine today and its up and running ;D. Shipping to australia took only a week. Love how fast the small unsigned packages are :)

Packaging was good. The diode can bounce around the box but there is no way that the foil can be poked into the "saddle" of the diode and touch the end facet.

Re: FS: "Long Die Open Can" Diodes

The diodes came in today....I got a refund on the 2 that came from fleabay...DOA. I am sure these are good.....will mount and power up this weekend. Thanks!!!!! Hope they are a mainstay here. I may want to build more in the near future. Just a heads up I am putting 2 for now in a case with a PBS cube to get 1/2 watt of 660. I then will combine the 300mw 635nm diode with it. Should look great in the projector. There is a GB on Photonlexicon for the sharp cutoff dichroics. That will allow mixing of the two wavelengths and have some killer colors! Thanks again!!!!!

Not very hard, takes me about 5-10 minutes to harvest one out of the heat sink with some diagonal cutters. I've found a way to harvest off the PCB ribbon stuff without using any heat from a soldering gun. I use a sharp pointy tool that came with my soldering gun to do this and the diodes seem to work a lot better when you don't use any heat.

I'm looking forward to a lot more of these LOC's (long open can).
