So... did i kill it?

ran my (brand new) PHR-803T through a homemade driver hooked up the batteries (2 AAA) and it lased very little.. then hooked up a 9V and nothing.. checked the connectivity and it was all good.. but not even LED.. so is it dead or is my driver dead? (fingers crossed for driver) but im not sure this is my first 803LD so.. is it dead? or is the connection just messed up? or is the amperage to high?.. and again its not even making any light at all..

could be your diode could be the driver. the diode can be bought under $13. a nice driver runs about $16-20 from dr lava or rkcstr ;D

You do not say what kind of "homemade" driver it is. I'm going to assume it is a linear driver. If it is a linear driver, then two AAA's is not enough to work. The diode needs 5V and the driver needs some voltage as well. Two AAA's is around 3V.

Then, if your driver was set to a safe current at 3V, when you hooked it up to 9V you probably fried the diode.

Check the current coming out of your driver with the 9V battery hooked to it.

how would you go about checking current? (sorry pretty new to this thing..)

also it wasnt exactly home made.. i ripped it out of a DX red module (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10091) just to see if it would work.. i figured it wouldnt let to much current through sense they are only 5mW.. so i guess it could be the driver.. but again this is my first build.. so.. yeah..

still looking for an answer now with the driver update.. just woundeing if i need to buy a new one before i spend another 11-15$ :/

I have no idea what that driver would be putting out. You can buy or make a dummy load for the driver and measure the current with a DMM. Search "dummy load" or just buy one of these

You could pick up a driver for your diodes while you're on the site, from Ryan as well.

Until you know what current that driver is putting out, I wouldn't hook anything else up to it. Also, I would imagine that 9V hooked to that driver would burn out the driver. Your diode MAY still be good. Test MORE than you shine.

i hooked the 9V up to it when the red was still on it and it ran just fine for about a week.. and i just moved it into a flashlight.. still working fine..

so anyone know the cheapest place to get another 803T? looks like all (or most) of the GBs are done..

Unfortunately, because we have no idea what the driver is putting out, we cannot say. Build or buy a test/dummy load and measure the output with your DMM. I would recommend that you just "bite the bullet" and get a quality driver from drlava or Rkcstr. You can get it pre-set for the current you want. Then hook up a new diode to it. You're gonna want more than one anyway
