X125 is more powerful and smaller in size, so it's all about what you need. the duty cycle on the X125 is stricter as well, because it's not easy to cool a laser diode in such a compact package.

I would go with the Alpha. If you're new to lasers, the 20mw difference isn't likely to be too noticeable. Also, if you're in the US, the alpha series has the safety features to make it FDA approved and totally legal to purchase. Since you're the popo, I'm assuming the law is important to you. :)

The Alpha has a few safety features... dongle delay, safety key and it's larger, but I've heard great things about them! Longer duty cycle.

But the X125 would be a nice choice as well. I personally would go with the X series, I love mine!

the alpha is the only laser pointer that uses 2x AA battery. i've never seen other laser with AA. it's a good choise... with 2700mah this laser should last for a long time!!!

II would go for an "Alpha" series laser for the following reasons:

1. It has a longer duty cycle.
2. The anodized coating is more resilient than the paint on the "X" series lasers.
3. It uses AA batteries instead of AAA ones, so it should last longer than pen-sized lasers before the batteries have to be replaced.
4. The "Alpha" series is reported to be more stable than the "X" series.
5. It is also reported to have slightly better specs than the "X" series.
