I have been using Laser Etchers (Epilog CO2) for MANY years. 6 months ago I decided to purchase a X-Tool D1 for personal Home use. It is a 10w Diod Laser etcher/cutter. Its performance is rather impressive. It can cut 5mm plywood in a single pass and cut 3mm solid oak in a single pass. X-Tool aslo sells a 20w version which I am seriously considering. The head alone is around $600. The power brick output for my 10w is 12v @ 5amp.

I can only assume the diod in use cannot be put in a handheld due to the amperage draw not to mention the need for fan cooling?

Information on the diod(s) itself is not available that I know of, and am curious if anyone has tracked it down and/or messed with it ?

The 20W 445nm and 20W 1064nm appear to use 4 x 5W diodes each.
The comparable unit ( different brand name ) Smackitup examined appears to use FAC enhanced diodes focused via. c-lenses and knife edged.
