i have noticed that when i turn on my x-65 laser, it takes a small bit of time to come on to full power at room temperature. once i warm it with my hand for a minute or so, it comes on at full power with no lag.

why is this happing? is it because the crystles or IR diode need to be warm enough to opperate properly?

btw, room temperature in my house is about 65[sup]o[/sup].

That's a bit chilly compared to around here with my general 77-78 degrees. But I'm guessing it's more for the alignment of the crystals due to microscopic expansions and contractions. Think of it like warming up a car. Takes a bit to be running at full capacity. This isn't really anything out of the ordinary.

yea if you want to see a temperature dependent laser look at the stats on my hulk (sig below)

Yep, all green lasers (especially portables) do that to one degree or another. Some do it more than others. But this is normal. My 140mw fusion drops below 50mw after 2min if I leave it on because the laser gets too hot. If I let it cool to room temp again I get 130-140mw of power again.

one more thing, i think it is mode hoping. when i point it through a lens, instead of havving a nice round blob, it looks elongated. if i turn it off then turn it back on, it fixes it. any ideas. i know the lens is clean becaucse i cleaned it.

Is this just when it's going through a lens or is it all of the time?

i have only checked throught the lens, but it would project a strange almost out-of-round dot instead of a perfictly round dot. when the dot looked wierd, just turning off the laser and turning it back on would fix it. could this be related to temp? :-?

Got a picture? Its normal for the spot to be somewhat elliptical, but if its split into two separate dots you got a problem.

My X105 likes to mode hop under a bunch of circumstances. On low batteries it splits to two and three dots and usually for a half a second when I turn it on it has two beams.

I think alkaline batteries start losing major power around 60ºF but I'm not for sure on that.
