The lense kit at WL is ok, I guess - you can go to edmunds' scientific and get lenses cheaper - or your local hobby store...Sterling optics, and a few other online places can sell some good lenses - even Walmart has magnifying glasses ! They are popular, because some folks wanted one-stop shopping...for that, yeah - do it ! If optics are the only reason you go there, I think they may be priced a little high...

Yeah - that link looks good ! Basically, the higher the magnification, the better it should focus the beam....all I have ever used is the little magnifier that comes on my "helping hands" aligator clip dealio.....it's a cheapo plastic one, but great for soldering small pieces, since I am so old, and my eyes are horrible ! 
Basically, just go to wallmart, and look in their little craft section - you'll save on shipping that way, too ! Some of the ones that are hand held, are advertised as "helps old farts to read" or something similiar ! LOL Glass is preferable to plastic, if possible - but either way you look at it, you will see cool little difractions going on with the beam when you shine it through a lense like that - makes almost a "W" before reflecting out, while most of hte beam passes through. IF you could find an AR (Anti-reflective) coated one, that would be TOPS !!! but there you are talking about some ca$$$$H I would imagine....

SenKat What do anti reflective thingys do and why are they better?

An Anti-reflective coating will prevent the light from bouncing back off the lense - it allows more of the light to pass, rather than reflecting it - thus more power !

I don't think that AR Magnifiers would be at walmart - the regular magnifiers would be, but the AR ones would probably have to come from maybe a camera shop - or maybe even an old pair of binoculars ?
