Hello I was just wondering what a high amount of hours is for an argon ion laser. And also what would be a good range of hours, ive been looking at some on eBay made in 1991 and they look pretty new, but I'm asking because I don't want to buy one then it quit working a few months later. Thanks.

That really depends on the tube. It also REALLY depends on how hard it was run during its life. For the regular small frame type, a tube run at 4A for 10,000 hours has way more life left in it than an identical tube run at 10A for 1,000 hours.

A VERY rough rule of thumb might be don't buy it over 8000 hours. Lower is always better, as you might expect.

The output-power:input-current ratio would be a better indication of tube health.

I need a reply asap because I have a limited time that I can buy one of these if they are worth it. Thanks.

Apparently the last one has been metered so it is a fairly safe bet that it's in good condition. :)

It depends on how much of a project you want. If you're bad with electronics and mechanics, get one that has a picture of it working. Getting just a head means you need to supply a fan, a potential fan power supply, a laser power supply, and a potential power supply controller. These all need to be selected carefully to ensure compatibility. If you don't want to go through that, buy a complete unit.

Not to mention - do you want a multiline or single line? You have listed both...

I really understand the urge to do it fast and get excited to buy - I really do! But, slow down a bit and understand what you are getting and what is required.

Here is a link to the documentation for these lasers - it will tell you details as to what each laser can do and the power supply required, etc...
