Say you were pointing your laser (like a 200mw greenie or high power 445nm) around in your backyard or at a park not doing anything illegal like lazing planes or people and the cop's came saying they got reports of a laser and started accusing you of pointing it at planes, houses etc what would you do ? There is no particular reason for asking this I'm just curious and think it would be an interesting read.

I'd be honest about what I was doing and explain that I follow all safety precautions to avoid pointing it towards planes, people etc.

If they wanted to take it I wouldn't argue. No point in making it worse for yourself.

^ exactly. Do NOT resist, if your laser is that much of an expense for you (that you would be inclined to resist), you shouldn't have it out doors or in a public place.

One of the reasons I love living out in the middle of no where - my nearest neighbor is a mile away and I have acres upon acres of open field with a backdrop of forrest to point my lasers at.

If cops came to my house on report of seeing a laser I'd do as Lase said, but also whip out my amateur radio license and the FCC bandplan/rules where it states light consitutes an amateur radio band and then show the cops my laser transceivers. If I had to I could explain my high power lasers as alignment tools for my communication links and antennas.

You could avoid any of that by using your Laser inside...
When you use it outside you take the risk of it being seen..

Be completely relaxed and say you're using it for astronomy & photography purposes and following all safety precautions where possible.

I'd probably tell them why I build them and that they are my hobby and I take safety precautions to prevent accidents. It stinks because I live in a neighborhood full of little kids at my father's so I can never use them outside. But at my mother's its great, I have a whole forest and back yard to my leisure. My grandparent's house is great. It's a giant field.

But back to the OP question. Yeah I'd not resist and explain myself.
