what type of LD?

Hi all, I am wondering what type of LD i should get. I need to know what type of 20x DVD burner is good. I mean what company should i get. Like Samsung, Sony, LG, LiteOn, and Etc..

also what type of LD should i not get. that will not work.

Definitely do not go with Samsung, you'll find some weird shaped diodes in those drives. Lite-on drives have short open can diodes which aren't as powerful as long open can diodes.
This is a long open can diode:

This is a short open can diode: (you can see after that line in the middle that the dye is shorter than that of the open can diode, hence their names)

This drive has a long open can diode, as well as this 115D pioneer one. (an 18x 112D has the same kind of diode)


EDIT: Jay is right, a SenKat diode would be a great choice for a beginner. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
 
go with a lg on.I hear they are easy to extract.Don't take my word for it.
 
which brand should i choose from or will work, and the ones that dont work

Lite-On = short open can diodes (20x burners)
ASUS = No idea
Philips = I believe someone harvested a good diode out of one. (16x)
Sony NEC Optiarc America Inc = Look at the bottom of my other post, first link. Long open can diode (20x)
Samsung = Big NO.
LG Electronics = A person here harvested long open cans from 18x and 20x LG burners.

i read it but the link for the sony is sold put. i just needed to know what is good and bad
