What limits a diodes power?

Hey, i was wondering if heat was the only thing that limits a harvested open can diode? does anyone know? Thanks

o ok. also a few people have recommended red diodes/drivers for me. I was wondering what you all think is the definitive best driver/diode combo that is cost efficient and powerful.
