What am I doing wrong...?

Hello!

I just got my new soldering station and I wanted to do some soldering.. So I tinned the iron, fluxed the diode pins and then I put the wire to the pin and then soldered on it for less then 1 second. The wire fell off. I tried again after some minutes for 2 seconds, it fell off. And so it went on. I made sure the pins would cool off every time.

What am I doing wrong? why won't the wire attach? It feels as if I am unlucky.. First my diode wouldn't press and now this..

Thanks!!

Sounds like your not letting the solder cool long enough before letting go of the wires. Takes about 5sec. Of steady holding of the wires before the solder cools.

I did try but it doesn't work.... :(

Yeah.. Very strange. I succeeded with one wire now but the second won't attach.. :(

Ahh ok you might need to make sure the pins and wire are getting the same amont of heat touch the iron to both the pin and wire add I tiny bit of solder hold the iron until you see the solder flow around them both remove the iron and hold the wire stedy a few sec. And that should do it.

It worked now!! Thanks man. I just hope I haven't ruined my diode :( +rep

1) Tin the LD Pins...
2) Flux the LD Pins...
3) Tin the wires...
4) Flux the wires....
5) put a small amount of solder in the Iron...
6) hold the Wire next to and parallel to the LD pin...
7) touch the tinned tip of the Iron to the wire/LD junction
just long enough to melt the solder on the Wire and LD pin.
8) DO NOT move the joint and blow on it for a second or two
to let the joint cool down quicker..

yeah, make sure the pins get hot enough to accept the solder. Practice on something else first though ;)

Thanks man glad I could help...yeah soldering takes some getting used to I remember when I first started had the same problem ball up solder joint don't work well lol...so just remember to heat both wire and pin at the same time and use just. A little bit of solder..good luck on the diode hope it works..

DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! I got it fixed, I soldered a total of 4 joins, which took me about 4 hours and I used up ALL of my wire and heatshrink from Flaminpyro + ALL of my Solder flux.. Which is meant to last for 10 builds... Oh well. I tested the laser, it fires up even though all the pressure it has been going through.

BUT THEN!!! I NOTICE SOMETHING!! The heatsink is still out of it's head and I can't push it up the head, it has to go in the other way, and the wires are attached!!! Man :( What am I going to do? I am a failed person. I have failed, failed, failed. Ohhh I failed. :cryyy::cryyy::cryyy::cryyy::cryyy::cryyy:

Do you have a diode press? You need to PRESS it into the heatsink.. to make it easy desloder the wires off the driver heat the pads up and slowley pull the the wires off then feed them though the heat sink then press the diode in make sure it is pressed in all the way in then resolder the wires to the driver the same way I said to do the pins..touch iron to the pad and wire at the same time and a tiny bit of solder until it flows..
