You shouldn't need to use really thick wires. The maximum current will be around 600mA.
Though another thing. Before people go blaming chargers, make sure the batteries your testing with are good low resistance cells. High resistance cells will generally drop in voltage pretty much instantly as soon as you pull them off the charger. When I test mine, I watch the voltage they're actually charging at while their charging, as well as checking the cells after they're charged using known good low resistance non-protected sanyo 18650's
The wire I used is a little thicker than the silicone wire used in lasers but it's all I have right now but I will be redoing the mod once I get the thinner wire. The batts I have are low resistance non-protected sanyo and 1 tenergy.
