I dunno if this is just chance, or perhaps customs if giving these types of packages (or DX themselves?) greater scrutiny, but I just got a package from DX today with the green "inspected by US dept. of homeland security" tape all over it. Luckily I was just buying some IIIA reds and desoldering wire, but Aseras or someone mentioned that DX will not reimburse if customs takes your greenie. So just be cautious if you're planning on shipping any of the higher power DX lasers into the US.

Agreed, with the recent explosion of popularity for the cheaper DX greenies, it would be very unlikely that customs didnt notice the trend.

Perhaps someone should send DX an email explaining the situation, they could possibly change packaging.

you can opt for the drop shipping service whiche removes the dx logo for a penny

Click on "$2 Items" at the top and it should be the first one for $0.01

It just got worse. all weekend long DX was on the Drudge Report. They linked to thier cell jammer.

Of course I just had to have an order in transit right now. ::)

Fortunately no contraband was in that order.

For those who don't know (non US) The Drudge Report is the site that (sort of) invented the "blogging phenomena", gets millions of hits a day, and was made famous for breaking/leaking the President Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal that other media outlets were sitting on.

it must suck owning a company like that that sells some illegal stuff. you have to worry about getting caught all the time. plus you have to make special packaging and stuff so that the stuff doesnt get taken by customs.

It does not seem to bother most companies that are clued up :D to mark their packages as 'pen torches etc' Anyone marking LASER!!! on a parcel is screaming for the customs to open it........

ya i guess youre right. so they can just mark a package as whatever they want it to be? like as long as its the same shape though right? cuz a pen laser would look just like a pen in an x ray or whatever they use to inspect the packages.

but do they use an xray? because that would be a lot of packages to look through for illegal stuff everyday. or is it random, like 1 in 6 packages are x rayed?

That depends from country to country as well as what kind of threat is happening with terrorism etc too....

it's not illegal for DX. they can make whatever they want in china/hongkong. it's just illegal to import or posess some of the crap depneding on what country you are in or importing it to.

customs can't check every package. they just go through some at random or look for certain things. They wise up, so when lots and lots of gift pens come in, they take a look and see what is in them.

the smaller your package the less likely it is to be checked. likewise the more obvious your packaging, the more likely it is to arouse suspiscion. that's why lots of things come through in plain envelopes etc. it's cheaper and it's vague.
