I finally ordered the stuff for a bluray, well except for the sled and the heatsink, but am waiting on an invoice for the heatsink and seeing when drew will order more sleds. I will follow Jayrob's tutorial for his "pocket pal" and will also use one of his heatsinks. It's the DX sku 46 host BTW. Any tips for building it? And a few questions about his tutorial; when he says to cut out the center to make room for the driver, should I cut out just the center thing *crappy ASCII art ahead* or the whole thing

O*O*O < the ring in the middle (in *'s) or

Sorry if this is hard too see, but it's hard to explain it verbally. And should I be worried about electrostatic discharge? I will be doing this in around a month, depending on how fast DX ships the host. I live in MN, and usually it snows during mid-November. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

if i get what you're saying, you have it right lol. you cut out the metal ring on the inside :D and i would be somewhat cautious of ESD.

Thanks, any more ideas?
UPDATE: I ordered the heatsink just now, and plan to order the sled from ndrew sometime next week. It really does not matter that I have to wait longer, I ordered the host from DX. ;D

this build is very straight forward it will make 110% more sense as soon as you have all parts in hand.

when i cut it apart i just cut as much off as possible its just used a spacer.

:)

tips...

use flux
take your time
if you get frustrated take a 5 minute break
short your driver before you connect it to the board
use thermal compound like artic silver for better cooling

Thanks, now buying flux along with the thermal stuff and solder will justify a trip to RadioShack. I'm kind of electronicly ignorent, so, how would I short the driver? Lol, 7th grade science =/= good @electronics. (Actually, it would be next to none, if I hadn't been so interested in electricity and looked into it, if I didn't I MIGHT OF known how to build a simple circuit. :P)

you dont short the diode you should the output side of the driver.

just do this before you solder the diode on and also makse sure the batteries are out before you put the diode near the host :)
