Hi all,

I am relatively new on this forum so I might be starting something that is already handled but searching on triple color laser pointer did not give me any results so here it is.

I have been experimenting with PS3 Diodes (or a least a friend of mine with which I share my interest in lasers) and found the following website:

http ://web.mit.edu/cjoye/www/lasers/BluRay1/ (remove space)

Now this guy states he build a dual mode driver, one that uses the red laser part of the ps3 diode and one that uses the blue/violet one.

When I read that, I thought why didn't I see one of these yet *-).

Anyhow, he also states there is an infrared laser in there, which means that it would theoretically be possible to generate a green laser too if you disect a cheap grean one and implement the crystal and IR filter with the diode.

Now I guess you all know where I am going to now. Would it not be a challange for you guys to build the first RGB (ok ok RGV) laser pointer!

Greetings from The Netherlands

Interesting idea, but the IR in one of those diodes is 780nm - insufficient for pumping a Nd:YVO4

Nd:YVO4 crystals convert 808nm NIR to 1064nm IR, thats why 780nm NIR wont work, they have a very thin wave band (2-5nm at most) that they can work at.

Ahh I was afraid that the IR was not in the right wavelength. Ahh well then I hope to see someone manufacturing the dual mode one from the website I gave (or similar).

And the PS3 diode is low powered, you wouldn't get enough out of it to pump a crystal.AND, if you put a crystal in front of the diode , it would interfere with the red and the violet output.

Btw, someone already made a RGV pointer(I think I saw on ebay and photonlexicon) with beam combination.
