I was thinking of building my first red laser using an LPC815 diode in a pen-style host, but I had a few questions before I order parts.
What current should I run it at?
I've read about people who got their laser up to 300mW after a glass lens. What current would I need to do this and is it safe for a pen/leadlight build? If not, what is the highest power that is safe in a leadlight build? Is 450mA too much?
What driver can I use?
I've seen people use a rckstr driver with 2 AAA-sized lithium ion batteries and I've seen people use flexdrive with 2 regular AAAs
Is there a difference in power, or can I make it with either one?
How do I wire it?
Since this is in a pen-style case, do I need to connect any wires to the case? If so, which ones?
What is the cheapest way to make this?
I'm looking to spend at most $70. Is this reasonable?
Spare parts left over from previous builds:
1. emply chrome leadlight barrel, without switch
2. lithium ion 3.7V battery charger
