Suggestions?

Personally, I would go with any of the single mode diodes DTR has for a few reasons. The divergence is great on the 120mw diode because its single mode. The Mitsubishi 500mw diode beam looks like Cyclops' eyes from X-men origins:crackup: That makes it look a lot worse than the single mode 120mw beam. Also, the 500mw will put out a lot of heat, which isn't a good idea for a pen build. If you want to do the Mitsubishi 500mw, I would put it in an easy host, like a c6 or a jayrob kit.

hmmm... red diode generate a lot less heat than it's blue/green counter part... around 2 times less since it only use 2.5volts compare blue and green 4.7-5.5 volts...

I was saying what I would do. I just wouldn't want that much power in a pen. But you do what you want to:beer:

I think single modes are pretty neat, so I think I may go with the 120mw Single mode diode from DTR. Only thing that worried me was the 3.8mm size but the size of the diode doesn't seem to matter so much in these pen hosts.
