Stuiped person shine laser at police helicopter

Here in New Zealand we as yet don't have laser bans. Another case where some silly person shone a laser directly at a Police Helicopter.
They arrested him and can have a jail term for up to 1 4 years.

If and when people can be arrested for misuse of a laser then why do they need laws to ban them as the law can take care of them.

It is silly people like that, that causes bans. The police are suggesting they want a law like Austrailia. I am afraid in time it will happen and all countries will adopt laws I think.

The hazards and risks involved are much higher than they used to be. Once upon a time, WWF wrestlers were getting bombarded by dollar store lasers. Every Sunday you were guarunteed to see 4 or more red dots in their eyes and in their face when doing their thing. No ban was imposed as it was not as crazy as it is now. Owners of high powered lasers which are way too easy to obtain, have the ability if desired to attempt to down a landing air liner with several hundred passengers. With a risk that great, there is one simple solution. Banning them wont completely eliminate the risk with the whole DIY community, but would hopefully help prevent such a disaster. If I faced jail time like in AU for carrying a 3b, you bet you a$$ I would not be walking around with one (not that I do :-X)

A ban most likely wouldnt lessen the chances by much, but most governments arent in the habbit of beating around the bush to get things done.

my opinions on laser bans is just like my opinion on firearms bans. The only thing a ban does is keep the honest citizens honest. Crimals will be criminals. They break laws. That's what they do. So a ban on such items is completeley irrelavent to somene with negative intent.

At the end of the day people get punished for abusing lasers, just as misusing firearms gets you into trouble.
So being responsible is ok.

Once the state makes a blanket ban on lasers just like firearms, that, my friends, is tyranny and its a case of being defiant and keeping it on the down low.
