Strange diode

I tore apart an old nameless DVD-drive(it might have been a burner, there were no markings on it), and for the life of me couldn't find the diode. The it occurred to me after reading a bit on laserwiki, and seeing closeups of open can diodes, that a little white spot I saw might be the diode actually, only with no can! I'm trying to get it out of the mount right now, but so far I saw it has four pins, ant that's it...

I managed to get it out of it's mount, and indeed, it seems to be a short canless diode, just a white rectangle with A40 printed on it, and four pins coming out the back. I'm pretty sure it's very low powered, and maybe it's infrared, but I don't know for sure, I'll look up more stuff on it...
