Hi. So, this is my first real modification. And it's going to be a bit tricky due to space limitations. But, I'm going to give it a go anyway.

So, the first post are just pictures of the toy host and the basic disassembly. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Especially surrounding power. I'm still not sure exactly how I'm going to provide power to both the toy's sound synthesizer and one of the two available lasers. I'm thinking about using the miniature TTL modulated constant current drivers Aixiz sells.

Aixiz module I'm going to use to interface with the existing micro controller sound synthesizer board: 2pcs constant current laser diode driver 80-500mA w/TTL - eBay (item 380249447313 end time Jul-15-10 15:19:14 PDT)

So for those modules, I'll need what, 6V? The toy only supplies 3V.

Anyway, take a look at the pictures and let me know your thoughts.

One more thing. In a bizarre twist of fate, the standard Aixiz housings fit in-side the faux plastic phaser nozzles (see last picture).

Any hints on how to insert inline pictures in a thread? I can't figure it out.

NICE! I'm going a slightly different route. I'm going to replace the AA's with dual 10440's and I'm going to keep the sound synthesizer in tact. Also, I'm going to directly embed the Aixiz modules inside the rotating assembly. You won't be able to tell the difference between the toy and the mod when I'm done. Also, I'm going to keep the auto-rotate function alive.

I am planing to build one of these myself and I was wondering if you ever completed this build and how it came out?
