Anyone have any recommendations for sources for Red
portables, 150mw or more, under $100? Hopefully something
with decent diode longevity (which diode brands? Senkat?)

Thanks

Re: Source for Compact portable, hi-watt under $10

I don't know of any place that sells high powered red lasers, I think WL is the only place, but their lasers suck and they're overpriced. Just ask somebody here to build you one, I'm sure somebody would do it.
If not you can buy one from Kenom here: ;)

You just missed out on the over 150mw lasers.. I think he might build more but dont quote me.. The one I bought for $63 shipped put out an average 240mw and its a heck of a laser and ill buy another one if more come available.

Thanks to all for the recommendations. I did check the link (had to delete it from my reply...seems I can't post links yet). The Kenom page looks interesting, but didn't have much detailed info (didn't say what kind of battery is used, or heatsinking, etc).  Also it is more than I wanted to spend, at least for the first one.

I do have a technical background, but I'm not up to speed on this stuff yet. Can anyone recommend types of diodes and heatsinks that I should be looking for? Is a driver board necessary for operation with CR123 or multiple AA's or will a resistor suffice?

You suggested having someone here build it. That would simplify my life, but unfortunately I don't know anyone here yet.
