Soldering Iron?

Hi I want to build my next laser but am new to building anything electronic so I will probably start with a nearly completed kit from jayrob or anywhere else you guys could suggest. I like the aurora green laser kit. My question is what soldering iron would you recommend? I found a pen style at Radio Shack that has a switch for either 15w or 30w. Or what wattage would be best for working on handheld lasers? :thanks:
