heya!

i am about to build a matched set of lasers, in a 1x AAA (10440) host. means 10 to 12mm inner diameter.
laserdiodes are no problem (well, relatively no problem!), but how about green? how small are the modules from the DX keychain-lasers powered by buttoncells, for example?
or any other idea? i wouldnt really like to extract all optics from a working module and realign them on smaller metalparts, that would be really tough work, if possible at all..
outputpower isnt important, i will build a small 635nm diode too which will be quite weak..

so.. anyone know a really small green laser, as module or pointer?

30mW Romisens all have the same module, they are about 11-12mm wide.

I measured it for you,

Diameter is 12mm for the first 20mm, and 6mm for the adjustable head with the collimating lens.
Length without driver is 30mm, with diriver it is 53mm. give or take 1-2 mm for focus adjustment.

I don´t think that you could make it shorter in any way...
You would have to replace the driver with a flexdrive, I am not sure if it works with a single aaa battery setup, as its normal input voltage is 3-4 V. You could use a lithium 14400 I think.

Hope it helps, ArRaY

ArRaY, thanks for measuring the module! :-)

all modules seem to be somewhat similar sized..

in the meantime, i gave up on the 10440 hosts, too small.. i'll just order me a new pack of 14400 hosts. this here looks good: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2070~r.28854883 "Powerlight HX-G011" it screws open into 3 parts, the driver sits on a metal screw-in ring, good for heat-transfer. i ordered almost all cheaper single-aa hosts back then to check them out, this one seems to be the best.
..and i wont have big problems fitting a green one in there, i think. well, replacing the original 14400 with a CR2, that is!

next question: whats the *shortest* green module? ;-)

You could trim the romisen one to abour 2 cm, by removing the plastic lens holder that you can screw up and down for focus.
But you would not be able to collimate/focus it properly then I think, not to sure though.
