Hey guys, been a while since i have built a laser and i had the urge to put together something evil :eg:... My birthday is tomorrow, so now i have something new to play with:wave: Anyway here's what i put together today :D

AND here's how this clever little host works :) It's a 18650 sized tube with a direct module press with NO set screw. This is good for heat transfer but if your LD dies, you won't be able to re-use the host :( Note that you will need a fairly large vice to press the module.

The laser is a 638nm 500mW Mitsu diode powered at the datasheet recommended 850mA from DTR (GREAT service!). The diode can be driven to almost double that current, but i would like it to last seeing as i cannot remove it if it dies. On the LPM it magically metered at 650mW which is more than what i paid for, so i'm happy :) Overall im Greatly happy with this build, it is the first time where i have had NO hiccups along the way and i believe it's due to Sinner's great host design. Merry Christmas, we're gonna have to watch out for another flying thing (Santa) :D

I'm getting my 1st "sinner" host soon (maybe today), it's also going to receive the Mits. 500mW treatment.

BTW - You definitely don't want to lase Santa; you'd be on his "naughty" list forever! :san:
 
Thanks :) Called it evil for the color of it... Havent built anything that is even comparable to it. Wht host did you get btw? I have been waiting for my host for 2 months now I really hope it gets here soon haha
Edit: I asked Santa for another laser, he'd just lase me back if I got him :umbrella:

I ordered his MS-SSW "secret weapon" stubby - 1x26650 version. :)
 
It is also VERY worth noting IMO that using a G9 lens gave me a 45% power gain over a 3 element! 3 element measured 420mW, g9 measured 650mW.
