Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are still very new technologies, violet laser diodes didn't exist a few years ago.. they're going to be expensive for a while.
Here's a 60mW pointer you can buy for only $2000:

$55 pressed into an aixiz module and shipped to your door is basically selling it with no profit at all and no money for his time, and is a very good deal.
If you just want something that burns, a red diode from stonetek will burn much better and cost less than $20.
