Safety goggles that came with Craftsman laser lvl?

Hey guys,
I have a Craftsman laser-trac level kit that came with some safety goggles. They don't have any kind of ratings on them. They are reddish in color, and it's a red laser in the level. Are these ok to use as laser safety glasses or are they junk? The whole kit was around $30, so I'm not sure if they are safe. Then again Sears has tremendous buying power. Any thoughts?

My thoughts are almost infamous on here regading laser safety goggles ! The goggles you got in that kit are "red enhancement" goggles...so you can see the red beam a lot better whilst doing leveling work :-) They are not meant to be protetive AGAINST anything, but as an inherent part of their design - they DO offer a tiny bit of protection versus green lasers....if you are going to mess with ANY green laser that is over 5mw in strangth - I do strongly suggest that you purchase eyewear made for protecting against the specific wavelength of 532nm.

i use those when using 100mw green reduces to verry small "yellow" dot

::Sigh again:: they're your eyes Toked. ::shrugs::

desslok, listen to SenKat and get some proper eyewear. (I think if you PM Pseudo or SenKat they can get you a slightly better deal on some lasershades)

Ok, will do. I'd rather pay $40 now than be sorry later on...

Glad to hear it.
Please pardon my lapse yesterday as I forgot to welcome you to the forum.

Welcome the the best forum on the web! It's good to have you here.

shine your laser through them in the dark.. ( careful of the reflection ) if nothing goes thorugh, they are safe for that wavelength. If you can see anything at all coming though, don't trust them.

I have a pair of Green blocking shades that are meant to make seeing outside a little more confortable.

I wouldn't use them for my safety though, its more like an experiment to quench my interest.
