Safety Goggles question

Hey there, I'm pretty noobish at lasers, but im thinking of buying a 100mW one from Rayfoss (532nm 100mw Green Laser Torch FLX [RF532-100mW-FLX] - $63.99 : Rayfoss Lasers!, Rayfoss your trusable onlinestore) and I'm wondering if these goggles 190nm-598nm Laser Protective Goggles [190nm-598nm Laser Goggles] - $11.99 : Rayfoss Lasers!, Rayfoss your trusable onlinestore are safe or low quality.

I am a noob myself but but have learned a lot by reading the great forums here so maybe I can help you out a little bit. Green lasers use Infrared Pumps that generate IR intially and convert IR in a process of doubling the frequency to make the green 532nm wavelength. Not all of the IR is converted in the process and some is left over in varying amounts depending on the quality or variations in the individual lasers. One thing I would suggest is that you get an IR filtered green laser or dual protection goggles if you are going to use it up close for burning. When pointing the laser at objects up close there will be invisible Infrared that will still go through those goggles that you will not see that could damage your eyes when reflected off of close range objects the laser is pointed at. The goggles may also protect you from a direct strike from the green light but not the invisible IR.

The IR is less of an issue if you are star gazing or pointing at objects a long distance away. Glasses are always stressed on here with good reason, however there is a danger with thinking the glasses are protecting you from the green (which they will) but will still let in the IR without your knowledge.

Survival laser sells goggles with dual protection which will filter out both green 532nm and IR light or you could also put an IR filter on your laser. Remember to always wear goggles when dealing with lasers over 5 mW.

Those Eagles are good for DPSS greens on a budget. Quite a few members have those and are pleased with them. Try a search for goggle testing.. I think someone tested those before.
