I'm thinking about getting a Romisen L-B030 from DX. Can anyone recommend this laser? How easy is it to take apart and adjust the focus? Any other contenders in this price/power range?

I have one. The focus is not adjustable, but it's not a bad laser. It is noticeably brighter than a z-bolt green that is putting out around 15 mW. I haven't measured seperate green vs IR power but without an IR filter mine makes just over 30mW. The only bad things I can thing of off the top of my head are that ou will probably have to tweak the pot to find a stable output and it would be very wise to replace the plastic head piece that holds the module with an aluminum one so it is heatsinked. Much more stable after I did that. It can run for several minutes at a time with no visible change in power and only a few mW variation on the power meter instead of about 30 seconds or less if you have run it within the past 5 minutes or so.

Thanks for the replies and advice. It looks like IR might be a problem, however the price is reasonable and the glass cover seems like a good idea.
I have the L-C030 and i can verify about the paint chipping, although its only happened in one tiny spot for me, i have to be a little more careful now.
Its pretty good. Complete guess, but i'd guess its pretty close to 30mw. Its much brighter and more spead out than my previous professional (yea right, broke in a week or two) 10mw green.

and why are you so panic about that little radiation, just do not point into your eyes or near four feet on reflecting surface and you will be as fine as my grandpa))) seriously..
about plastic thing inside of it its pretty strong to heat so there's no need of changing it, what about the strength it is pretty strong as for 30MW i bet its much stronger (in fact ill be able to check next week mine) and has a visible beam...
boosting the strength, you know what, i was screwing that thing 360 degrees and its now what you might think, it does not increase power, if you turn it clockwise it goes dim, if you do counter clockwise it starts blipping, i could see that if moving on the wall from on x-axis))) fast. so the best is the way it is...
guys who already have it, i saw on youtube guy is boosting his lasers so the beam is so damn visible that i became jealous, he made i guess 100 out of 20!!! lets find the way

The plastic piece on the inside doesn't need to be changed because it will melt. It will hold up just fine. The problem is that plastic is an insulator and all that heat stays in the module. Mine had a very unstable power output until I replaced it with aluminum.
I have access to a lather so I just made it out of some aluminum stock. There may be a few members here who could make you one, but I'm not sure. I'd offer, but I am really busy for the next few weeks so I dont know when I'd be able to get around to it.
yo people come on, lets make a beast :-/I adjusted the pot on mine cause it was a bit under spec when I got it. It is really flaky though. I just found a setting that was about 30mW and was stable. My switch or something is going bad now though. Definitely not a high quality laser. If you don't mind tinkering then its not terrible though.
