rkcstr driver question

I hooked up a phr to a rkcstr micro drive. it turns on and works but im not sure if its safe.
i only ask because on the driver i only soldered the ld connector to the + node on the phr and the gd connector untouched. then on the battery connection i grounded the - pin on the diode to make the case -and ran batteries to the positive node on the driver again leaving the - connector untouched. what is the point of these connection points?

AFAIK, rkcstr is LM1117 based driver , which means entire circuit is on positive side of laser diode/battery, and the negative connections on PCB are not only for easier orientation, but for capacitors and rectifier diodes that are in parralel with the laser diode itself.

So , you should solder on the diode completely to the driver,
But it is not neccesary to solder both battery leads to it.

With the Rckstr set at 100mA, it will have a nice long life, and will still burn fairly well.
Congratulations!
