i am making a blu ray laser, but i dont kno what ohm and watt resistor to get... i dont want to burn out my diode so thats why im asking before i do something... if it has anything to do with it i am using 2 AA batteries... i have a driver

You cannot run a laser off a resistor and batteries, you need a current regulated driver.

Furthermore, a bluray diode needs 5 volts, and two AA's only produce 3v. The only way you're going to run that off two batteries is with a boost driver like drlava's flexdrive.

Well then your driver should have potentiometer or some way of adjusting the output...

If you're building your own driver based on an LM317T regulator, and your bluray diode is the PHR-803T, a 10ohm 1/2watt resistor will be great.. That'll set your current to 125mA. Do note for an LM317T based driver you're going to need at least 8 AA batteries, 2 won't do anything at all.

You haven't provided any info about what kind of diode it is or what kind of driver you have, nor why you need a resistor for your purposes. Care to fill us in on the details? As it stands you're making very little sense.

i bought the driver from laserdiy.com would it work???... and how do u kno what kind of resistor would work?

You mean this?
Blue Laser Diode Driver

As far as I can tell no one here has ever used that driver... Looking at the pictures I can't even tell how it could possibly work... All I see is a couple capacitors, a small potentiometer, and a pushbutton.

Honestly, I'd suggest you just throw that out and buy a proper driver like this: http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/lava-micro-flexdrive-driver-lavadrive2-fits-pens-22502.html

Also, in the future, I wouldn't buy anything from that site... Everything is four or five times more expensive than it should be... For example, the "High powered blue diode" they sell for $50 is likely a PHR-803T violet diode, which you can get here on the forum for under ten bucks.

Is this the Laser driver that you bought....

It is a driver they sell for Blu-Ray Lasers on the site you mentioned...

BTW... doing a little reading on the forum would give you a lot more
info on Blu-Ray Drivers...

i bought the same one... im trying to figure out how to solder it up right now. ive been poking it with a multimeter for th last hour and can't figure out whats + and whats -
