hello,

I found 2 rcb on dealextreme website:
- dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3256 3.6V~9V 800mA - based on c310 chip
and
- dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3160 3.6V~4.5V 350mA - based on AMC7135 chip

I would like to use one of them to drive a 22x dvd writter. First seems to have to much current (800ma) and the second, to less (350ma). Afaik, red LD need 400-420mA in order to obtain a good output thermal power.

Does anyone know which adjustments should be made, in order to enable one of above rcb to work at 400-420ma? Which one will worth to be used?

The AMC will work and has been used before, but I think it isn't recomended because it doesn't provide a smooth enough flow of electricity....or something like that :-/

It is true that the LD has some thermal output, but it's the light that you're interested in. :D

Hi switch,

i read the same thing about AMC. others says that this rcb is not enough stable and can produce some variations. finally, remain just dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3256

from their diagram, i can see that at 3.6V we have 400mA and for 3.7 we are getting 320mA and after that we are obtaining around 350mA.

does anyone know more about this board? it can be used with a 3.7V Li-Ion battery, to power a red laser diode?

regards,

Well, I wish I was better at electrical stuff. :P Someone else is gonna have to come up with a better answer. But just as a wild guess, I doubt that any DX driver is gonna be good for a laser diode. If you want an adequate boost driver you can always get the flexdrive if you dont mind spending the extra bucks :-/

Re: rcb drivers from dealextreme will work for red

This DX driver based on the 7135 is a negative side driver. These are best saved for positive ground IR laser diodes. It can be used to make a red laser, but implementing it can be a hassle. The host body would have to be electrically isolated from the aixiz housing. Also, the 7135 does not like an output capacitor in the circuit, it will refuse to initialize if one is present.
I built two red lasers based on this driver, they work well, and diode lifetime will be good at 350ma drive current. I machined the hosts for these myself, so isolating the head from the body was no problem.
Unless you really want the challenge, get a premade, preset driver like a rkcstr or a lavadrive. You could also, for very low $$$, build the LM317 driver, it works very well, but needs more voltage. For a red with the LM317, you could use 2 x CR123 (same size as 1 x 18650 protected).

hi bill,

i am already using home-made lm317t driver. i asked about amc driver because its price is very attractive. else, still remain my question related to sku.3256 based on c310 chip. did anybody tryed this one? some feedback? till now, it seems that will not work without major adjustments, and in this case not worth effort. Other opinions regarding c310 chip are welcome.

regards,
