hi,
greetings from germany,
I am fascinating in lasers since i see one the first time.
I think they serve my autistic side somehow ;)
Since portable high power laseres became affordable
i am looking of a all-purpose rgb laser source
for doing all kind of optical experiments, star pointing and
video effects. Burning is nice but good beam visibility and
dutycycle are more important for me

i am thinking for a green,red and blue(ray)
pointer with long duty cycle (at least 5 min)
around 200mW each and focusable lens.

How is the quality of beam/lens and duty cycles
from dx and o-like products compared with DIY tutorials on lpf?
Should i go for DIY for best quality for money?
I live in germany. afaik lasers about 5mw are not allowed.
Is it possible do order parts (esp. the LD) or complete
kits offered by members here and to go through customs?

many questions... :umbrella:
your answers are appreciated.

Many countries restrict the importation of high powered lasers. The USA and Australia are two very good, well known examples of countries that will seize any handheld laser their customs officers can find. Laser parts, such as green modules, diodes, drivers, laser optics and lenses, these typically attract no attention from most customs. Of course every country is different, some seem to open every package and go through it, probably to assign a value for import duties and taxes.

The red "dilda" type lasers sold by DX, o-like, etc. are decent lasers and many forum members own them. The DX greens are hit and miss quality, usually underpowered, or stability issues such as mode hopping. For instance, my DX 200mW green baton laser only puts out 110mW including IR. Most of us here make our own blurays. By "RGB laser source" do you mean three lasers, or some type of all in one with variable power for each color and beam combining optics?
