question about DIY laser

If i were to make one, keep in kind im 12 so i dont know that much about electronics. I know people say that hooking up a diode strait to batteries is stupid, but what else would you hook it up to??? help!!! :'(

Take a peek at hte experiments and mods section - there is a circuit in there, called "Daedal's circuit" that is a standard LM317 voltage regulator circuit that is PERFECT for driving these diodes...I HIGHLY recommend using that circuit...

Oh - and it is fairly easy to build that circuit out, too...
