Question about 2 diodes in LG Lightscribe Burner

I popped open an LG DVD Burner with Lightscribe(sorry don't have model number handy), and there are 2 open can diodes. The diodes look identical. Is one for burning and one for the Lightscribe? Can they both be used for burning? I don't want to pump too many mA into either one without knowing which is which. Thanks in advance.

one is an IR LD for cd and the other one is a red LD for DVD . do u have a photo of the pick-up?

What I've been doing lately is, using a Daedal circuit @ eg. 200mA, solder the wires to each diode whilst they are still in the drive(Butane iron) and test each one without wasting time removing the wrong one..

No photo, it's all chopped up anyways now. I guess I'll just turn my circuit down and hook them up, and only one will glow red then?

This is a pick-up of a LG H55N 20x drive. In the pic ive marked the places where both LDs used to be

Excellent! Thanks for the pic, that looks just like mine. (before the cutters got to mine anyways)

Ok thanks for that info as well. I may need to make a IR burner once I complete my CVS IR videocam hack.
