Hey guys. So i got my first PS3 SLED today, did a quick lookie. Any tuts on harvesting these things before i just have at it?

Also what's the chances of a faulty laser being able to lase? I mean it couldn't read discs but maybe it just needs adjusting? Anyway any experience with these things would be helpful as i'm not sure.

Also sorry if i'm a bit inactive. Coming to the end of a three year course and coursework is getting a bit hectic.

I haven't harvested from a ps3. But I think most people here wouldn't harvest the diode from the ps3 sled because it isn't as powerful as the blu ray burners. But with my first sled i just took everything apart slowly not trying to break anything. I'm sure you know what a diode looks like. So just keep your eye open for it when taking everything apart. And save the optics, they're sometimes fun to play around with :)
Thats my advice.

You should find a 5,6mm LD with 5 Pins.
Thats Blu-Ray, Red, IR and a Photodiode in one package.

Heres were the LD is located at:

Try to carefully twist the heatsink with pliers to get the LD loose from the sled...

Thanks Phenex. Thought that was it but wasn't sure. Also awesome a multipackage...sure i can do something with all those :P

Also power may be low but it's preeety ^_^

Well, I think those were run at 15 mA or so, nothing too fancy.
PHR sled is $13 at HTD, it's bluray diode is capable of pushing 100mW.

Well, if you are nostalgic or power conservative guy (this with 18650 will last a lifetime), go ahead :D

Could make a neat pen style pointer to amaze people at prezentations but not much more I'm afraid...

Well i'm only just starting off. yet to order the pots and a few modules yet -.- Silly me. Shall only be messing around with simple free diodes till i get the confidence for bigger and better :)
