Hi guys. Some people say this is a waste of time/ money and others say this provides some protection for by standers.

Anyway here is a DX 'True' 5mW which looks brighter than a 5 and is more like 8mW.

All the dark shots are in the same brightness which is a sort of dusk effect.

NO overexposure on any shot and all done in same lighting ( I also did this in daylight but couldnt see the green, I also for control did it with the green part of the glasses negligible brightness difference.)

No 3D glasses:

With red part of one pair of 3Dglasses:

as you can see there is a HUGE decrease in the amount of green light getting through.

It looks much less bright than a <1mW red.

Can anyone explain why a DOUBLE layer of these glasses would not protect somebodies eyes?

I would be happy to look into this with a double layer (but I'm not going to just in case :P lol).

No photos of double layer, but dot is not visibe to naked eye.

The higher power green lasers would melt right through the film. This might work for <100mW (Ideally 70mW max), but I value my eyesight too much not to spend $60 on a pair of high quality OD 2+ glasses.

It's going to take awhile to melt through the film. Do you plan on looking right into a 300mw green for a minute or something?

exactly, this is for brief exposures at a distance, not point blank for 30 seconds....

Even my underpowered DX 30 melts that stuff instantly. We keep saying this. It would only be safe if there was 0% chance of direct exposure, but this is NEVER the case when using a laser. Not safe. It may make viewing comfortable but will NOT save you from a direct hit.

It's frippin thin cellophane. It tears through it like a blowtorch.

From a minute exposure? it's a wonder we don't see more videos of it done.

I still don't think it's worth risking your eyes. I don't know a whole lot about the subject, but there's also the concern of the dye burning/getting disorted. And regardless of how much light you see, there's no real proof without power readings.

Two layers of that block as much light as my od5 goggles, only problem is that even partial reflections of my x93(its average power :P) make it start to deform and melt.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D

Exactly. Not safe with direct exposure. And there is always a chance of direct exposure.

lol ok so ill find a material with same OD as the goggles but with a higher melting point.

What do you guys think about some sort of acrylic see through red?
