Well i dont think i posted this in the right section but its worth a shot. Basically i have been reading about people making these really really powerful LED torches. Ive got a home projector and at the moment its pushing out ~400 lumens through a 400watt halogen light bulb.

Do you think its possible for me to achieve approximatley 500 - 700 lumens with some LED lights that people use here(say the cree LED or something) and result in a more brighter and whiter picture??

Anyone got any input?

This is definitely the way to go. Halogens are heaters that happen to put out some lite. You're challenge will be packaging the LED array in the space of the halogen. The lifespan of the LEDs will make up for all your troubles, not to mention the color control possibilities, the energy efficiency/less heat.
