Problem with my GLP-473....

I noticed that the bottom portion of it (the part that houses the driver and the battery) is loose now, and can easily be twisted. What can I do to tighten this? I'm worried I'm going to break the driver off of the diode pins inside....
 





Wow! Those thing are usually stuck together good! If it is loose you can open it up carefully by pulling the top half straight out. Then on the part which slides into the other you can bend The metal slightly so that it is a very snug fit inside the other half. Either that or pull it out slightly to expose the metal below, suer glue it and quickly slide it back in. The metal makes enough contact all over so that this should not be a connectivity issue. Just use a drop or two on 1 spot.

Thanks. No clue as to how the hell this happened. I will go with the super glue option.
 
Okay but proceed with caution. If you ever need to get inside you are going to have a difficult time after you glue it. Also try to turn it on right after you slide it together to ensure connectivity. If it is lost (if yours is loose there is a greater chance of this) you will want to open it back up as quickly as possible.
 
Also careful not to pull it too far out so the button doesn't drop. Or make sure the button is on the bottom.
 
Yeah, come to think of it, bending the metal seems like the better way to go with this. Question is what should I use so that I don't destroy the finish?
 
yeah I try to avoid using super glue for anything that can be fixed another way. So long as you are bending the inside sleeve and not the outer you will not need to worry about the finish

I'm confused as to what you mean by the inside sleeve. I pulled it apart as you said, and this is what I see.

 
Is it possible to use tin snips or something of the like to bend the metal below the gold ring or is it solid? I have opened up a few of these but my memory is not that detailed. If it is solid then perhaps you could just grind part of it and add a small layer of solder to it.
 
That gold part is solid. Looks like my only choice is glue. I'm debating giving elmers a shot.

I know. I think I'm going to wing it with a drop of crazy glue. I doubt I'll ever need to go in there for anything. I'm confused as to how this even happened in the first place =\
 
Actually, I'm going to try wedging a piece of foil in there first to see if that works.

Edit/Update: Worked! Although it doesn't seem to be the best, it works. Thanks to Dave for suggesting this when I had a similar problem with a PHR pen build a year and a half back. Sucks I couldn't take the back barrel completely off. There's a piece of plastic encasing the spring which prevented it from coming out all the way.

JBWeld is the best for this kind of job. It will never come loose again, and no fumes.
