Optical Laser blanking

I admit I was a little ambiguous. Rephrased: will this modulate a beam to the standards of a decent scanner?

well unless you get a specsheet you cant know its response time of the dimmer crystal curciut, and you can make a control curcit that will re config it to vibrate the crystal at the frequency needed to modulate whatever frequency your putting through it then yes, if not it will only work for that 1 hene frequency and any multiple of it.

That thing is just an polarizer that you turn on and off. If your incoming light is polarized it will dim it. It is not an AcoustoOptic modulator (AOM) like tomcat was talking about. This is most likely a LCD that you are either rotating or not depending upon the voltage that you put to it similar to these http://www.displaytech.com/photonics_shutters.html.
