So I started to read about using my HD DVD players laser in a BIC light (AKA Kip Kay). Then I came across the flames about him and then found a few other designs and plans after searching a bit more. My question is this: Whos plans should I follow? :wtf:

Any ideas?

The thing that has me with KipKay is only the "box" it is in. I don't want to use any other type of media. As long as I can fit large enough components to do the job in a lighter like that. That would be my ultimate goal.

First there is this list needed:

Component DigiKey RadioShack Approximate Price
Capacitor 1 2 1 ~ $1
LM317 1 2 1 ~ $2
Potentiometer 1 1 ~ $1
Resistors 1 1 Pennies
Silicon Diodes 1 1 Pennies

Then this one

1-Adjustable Voltage Regulator LM317T
1- 100 ohm Potentiometer
2- 10 ohm Resistors
1- 1N4001 Rectifier Diode
1- 47uf 35v Capacitor
1- Any Size PCB Board
1- Any Solder
1- Any Soldering Iron
1- Power Switch (I like momentary push buttons)
1- 12x30mm Aixiz laser housing Click Here
2- Spools of wire ( Red and Black )
- You will need at least a 6 volt Power source.

I see the similarities in both designs but when looking up parts and seeing the images of the parts they are not same as in other pictures describing this build.

I have this in my shopping cart

1 2 P836-ND CAP ALUM 47UF 35V 20% RADIAL
2 2 478-1911-ND CAP TANT 47UF 16V 10% RADIAL
3 2 LM317TNS-ND IC REG POSITIVE ADJ TO220-3
4 2 LM317LZNS-ND IC REG POSITIVE ADJ TO92-3
5 2 3319P-101-ND TRIMMER 100 OHM 0.2W TH
6 5 3.9H-ND RES 3.9 OHM 1/2W 5% CARBON FILM
7 5 1N4001DICT-ND RECTIFIER 50V 1A DO-41

I already have the blue laser from my old 360 hd dvd drive. Should there have been a driver on that? I only took the laser part. I still have the leftovers.
