So, I ask myself, does the infamous 532nm green laser pack as much punch as our eyes see. Then I ask myself, is it necessary for a 808nm laser diode to send it’s energy through a crystal to turn it to 592nm to create a green laser? What for? So that our human eyes can see it? As the inferred laser itself doesn't pack as much punch? So, why does a tattoo removable laser use in inferred?

-Only my thoughts.....

And if a crystal can change the nm of one light frequency, can it change another into another? Lol, I guess is why different rubies, crystals, diamond, gasses and other stones have been used to make other lasers already (in human history).

And the introduction of the DPSS laser diode.
Made for production and ease.
And the most proficient, and practical.

huh? if you are asking if an 808 loses power when converted to 532, then yes, depending on how efficient the crystals are

:) I thought so. Wow, the power of the magical 532nm cancellation goggles! It smokes so well, yet the dot is less powerful then a 5mw 650.

The 808 is used as a pump to get a population inversion in a gain medium that is doped with Nd. The nonlinear crystal doubles the frequency of the light output from the Nd gain medium. The 808 nm laser is not doubled or it would be 404 nm.

The crystals can be used to make other colors yes, but not a continuum, only harmonics or additions of the light that is input to them. There are different crystals for different colors in order to satisfy the phase matching condition that is required to double the light.

If you just want power then you can use the diode by itself, but 808 nm diodes arent particularly visible which makes for a pretty crappy pointer.
 
Not all lasers for tattoo removal are IR....it depends on the color of the tattoo you are trying to get rid of. If you have green, black or blue ink, a red laser will work. If you have red ink, a blue or green (or in between like an argon-ion) laser will work (and also work for black). But yellow ink is nearly impossible to get rid of because most laser colors aren't absorbed by yellow.

Usually IR (like a CO2) is used to get rid of any scarring (from tattoo removal or scars from any source that are dark or uneven), but for getting rid of the tattoo inks usually visible light lasers are used. BTW CO2 lasers have been used in the past to remove tattoos (maybe still sometimes today but not much) but they burn everything - the ink, the skin, the dermis - and do leave scars almost as bad as the tattoo!

The reason we turn 10mW of 808nm into <2mW green is that green is good for pointing and laser shows while 808nm is useless for those. ::) If you want engraving, etching, burning , cutting you're not gonna use green, you're gonna use the lowest price/power laser source available , which ussually is IR whether it's diodes or CO[sub]2[/sub](as long as your particular target absorbs it efficiently of course)

I would clear this up, but I can not explain it in words less confusing either.

Green diodes don't exist except for that they are IR diodes run through some "mystical glass" and then they are green but seem to be ALOT less powerful then they were as IR.

Yea I don't quite get it eighter....the dot is the same power even if you view it through glasses.Anything less powerfull than a 5mW is not gonna "smoke well".
5mW 650nm or 532nm are the same power anyway.The green one is brighter I'll give you that, but brightness and power are not the same thing, brightness is relative to our eyes' sensitivity and is wavelength dependent.Power and brightness are not only not the same thing but they aren't even proportional :P
AND....goggles don't "cancel" light, they just reflect it.

Lol, I was actually purposely trying to be vague to see what kind of responses I would get through self interpretation. However, I did get the answers I was looking for. As it seems, Schrecken_Licht understood. I’m also glad that Swich was able to catch my typos.

Just to clarify myself, I received my RPL 225 this weekend. I was just imagining what kind of power the thing actually produces as pure 808nm because that thing is super fricken powerful at 532nm!!! My imagination goes wild when I start dreaming of the possibilities of different types of lasers. Diode lasers are cool and all, but other technology far surpasses.

- I’ve played around with lasers all my mature life. Just now I finally get the chance to experience the power of a “true” laser. Of coarse I also bought the goggles. I was just trippen how even though the dot looks so dim (through the protection of the goggles) and packs such a huge punch as to “smoke so well” most dark material it contacts with. Then I was imagining (I haven’t yet had the pleasure) of experimenting with a high-powered IR laser and how powerful they burn although our eyes don’t pick up the spectrum. The [smiley=evil.gif] was my "weird/confusing" way of saying: "More then meets the eye..."

In conclusion: I love this crowd. You guys are great.
