newbie : powerful ASCII character laser projector

Hi

I'm a newbie in the laser world. I am looking to get a powerful green laser projector that can display messages. Ideally it would be computer controlled so it could generate not only text but also patterns, etc.. The distance of projection is very long (1 mile) I'm not looking for a clean focus laser beam at this distance obviously..

Anything commercially available exists? I could only find laser projector with a very small set of fixed patterns but nothing with text/msg capacity.

Thanks to indicate brands/models or any other links appreciated.

Hmm.. I think what you're looking for is a scanner, and while they can display messages even in multiple colors, I don't think you'll be able to get anything a mile out though...

Can I buy a scanner without the laser and plug my own laser? (could be cheaper)

Scanners are made by members around here, I know Things has the most impressive one i've seen yet.
